It's a new paradigm in learning - kids who love games will love this VTech Touch Tablet. This portable tablet and laptop computer in one introduces school-related subject matter, and even music and art through fun games that recognize a child's skill level and adapts. Requires 4 "AA" batteries (included). Measures 11.4"L x 9.5" W x 1.6"H.
loaded with activities (2008-11-09)
I do wish the screen was larger and in color, but I got a really good deal through amazon pricewise and it is definitely worth what I paid, but not much more. Mine was supposed to be new, but it appears to be "gently used" even though it shipped from amazon.com directly.
I like the laptop appearance, it looks very nice. The detachable part is nice but I wish there was some sort of parent key so that your child couldn't go detaching as they pleased. The touch screen is nice, especially considering in the future everything will be touch screens. There are many many activities...I am a little concerned he may find a few he likes and ignore others....but the variety is good also.
Overall I think it will be excellent for my nephew who will be 8 and has ADHD. Since he is very smart but has that lack of focus, these products work so well with holding his interest better. I also work with him but sometimes it can be frustrating and this is nice that he can learn on his own now. BUT...I can tell you though if I had got it when I was 8 I would have looked at my mom crosswise. Do NOT get this if you have an advanced gifted child because they will run through it in a manner of days and then be bored. Think of your child's mental age and not physical age. it does lean a bit on the simplistic side....
It is an excellent learning tool for these fidgety hyperactive types who need to play and learn at the same time. I do not get my nephew video games; everything I get is educational and he does well with his grades now. Same with TV products. V Tech has really helped him turn around from being 5 years old and unable to read or count at all to getting a complicated math question the teacher put on the board that no one else could get. Thank you!
Touch Tablet Review Great Product (2008-02-21)
We bought these for our boys ages 7 and 8 and they LOVE them. Just took a road trip and this was the best thing on earth to keep the boys occupied for hours. Wish VTech would make some cartridges that are even more challenging for older kids. My only concern is Vtech website says suggested retail is $99.00, Toysrus sells for that, although Amazon is outragiously high priced! I would NOT pay as much as Amazon charges for it, its WAY above suggested retail! We also have the Nitero Notebook Jr for my youngest son and he LOVES it. I will continue to buy VTech products till my kids totally outgrow them. Daughter has a very basic laptop from Vtech as well for preschoolers.
Query on the selling price.... (2007-12-02)
I went on the VTech website to get more info on this product. Their suggested retail price is $99.99, but Amazon (who have exclusive rights to sell) are selling it for $199.99. Can anyone, including Amazon, tell me why they are selling it for twice the SRP? Could it be because I can't buy it anywhere else? Comments welcome!
Excellent (2007-04-02)
My daughter has trouble concentrating in school. I got this for her birthday and her grades instantly improved to the point where her teacher stated that there was a noticable improvement in all areas of her work. The best thing about it is that I don't have to tell her to use it because she loves it. I told her it's just like having a laptop because she always wanted a computer of her own. This is as close as I'm willing to get concenrning her having her own computer at her age, plus it's a minute fraction of the price of a personal laptop.
For children who don't have a hard time in school, this may not be for them but for my daughter it is a whole lot of what I needed to help me help her learn. I just wish I could find an adapter.
Not worth the money! (2007-01-17)
This is more for a kid who is 4 or 5 years old NOT 8-11 as it states.
Talk about a waste of money. I returned this the next day for a refund as my 10 year old daughter would have been so upset with me had she received this under the Christmas tree this year.
It was a shame the description wasn't more accurate, because I was not refunded my expedited shipping costs I paid for this "TOY"
Thumbs Down
